Just guessign here but most likely the IP address of your Synology has changed due to putting the new router in place and the bookmarks you might have in Safari and IP address recorded in your phone are not correct anymore.

If yes, note down the IP address. Now check your Safari bookmark and your phone apps and see if the IP address in therei is the same you recorded. It seems like every time Apple pushes out a Safari web browser update it disables Java.

Just to clarify the IP address I gave was an example but I would check the actual IP address and input while attempting to connect to the server. Also, in the Orbi tool, it recognizes my NAS and shows it in the list of devices connected. Yeah, I tried, it still wont connect. In Mac NAS is seen as a server that we connect to using the process shared earlier. I have opened a case with Netgear and they have escalated it to Level 2 technician.

As shared earlier, my Orbi attached device list shows that this NAS is connected but for some reason, I am unable to access the storage server directly - i. Appreciate any assistance. Netgear Orbi vs Synology mesh system

I am trying to setup synology external access with my ORBI. I was able to quickly setup port forwards using UPnP and all the port seems to be connecting Does anyone have the same problem? You are ahead of me. Seems like a pretty straight forward thing to do. Specify that external port 80 goes to port 80 on a particular IP address.

I doubt that DDNS has anything to do with this.

I was advised by Synology service tech to not use UPnP as it is unstable and instead to setup port forwarding rules manually I added 3 custom service rules.

This certaily looks correct to me. In all this, I forgot to ask what the Orbi is connected to. Obviously, the Orbi is in "router" mode. If it is connected to another router rather than directly to the internet modem, port forwarding is not going to work.

Now, when I did the tracer test, the first "hop" was to However, the second "hop" was not to Google's 8. I think you are OK as long as the second hop is not a Having two routers will definitely break port forwarding because incomming packets will not get through the first router.

I went into the admin page and it doesn't seem to have any port forwarding options. In fact, there is not much you can configure manually. My tentative conclusion is that the on-line tool will only report a port open when it receives a response from a TCP connection attempt. Th e Orbi forwarding packets may not be enough to confirm the port "open". In short, I think that the Orbi actually may be forwarding connection attempts to the Synology, but the Synology is not allowing the connection, which shows up as "closed.

It is possibe to verify this, but it is a chore. Perform the connection attempt. It should show the packet coming in and going to the Synology, but the Synology not responding. I do this all the time, so I have gotten used to it.

The first time, this is a serious time comittment. Click here for our top support FAQs. Join Now Log In Help. Discussion stats. Orbi, synology, media server. With a synology nas running media server connected wired to a dlink dir router my LG TVs could see the synology device over WiFi and play the contents. However with the exact same setup but replacing the dlink with the Orbi I cannot see the synology device in the list of devices when trying to connect from the LG tv.

The media server is using upnp. The LG tv also says multicast must be supported. Anyone come across the same issue? I can put specs and screen shots if required. Message 1 of Labels: Troubleshooting. Any help us much appreciated! Message 4 of 6.Which one is a true Wifi mesh system? Which one is the best performance when it comes to Wifi speed, and coverage? Is there a huge difference, between 2ac vs ac? Both of these WiFi systems are very similar.

Higher frequency will potentially give you more speed for data transfer in your local network. But a real game changer is WiFi 6. It will send signal towards the devices which need internet instead of simply broadcasting everywhere. It is also faster because it can serve many devices simultaneously not one device at the time. Orby RBK does feature this technology. The speed of your WiFi will be exactly the same on all routers if your Broadband speeds is less then Mbit. In this comparison you need to justify extra money spent on Synology and is it really worth it.

The answer is yes. You probably do not even need two MRac mesh points. The base station can cover very large area of the house.

The additional mesh point could be placed only in dead zone. Both systems feature Ethernet out ports allowing you to have Ethernet without running the cable. Skip to content.
