I don't know if anyone else has discovered the micro usb port under the battery cover but here it is in the picture. Just remove a little white plug and plug in your usb cord and you're finally free of those highly overpriced batteries! Thanks for the info Jtuck. I can confirm that it works. I just removed the batteries from one of my cameras and plugged in a USB cable, and I can stream video from it.
The only downside is that the plug is on the inside of the battery compartment, so you can't close the compartment's lid. One user posted that it "may" burn the plug out since the camera may require more than a 5v draw.
The Arlo difference
I don't know Cool discovery. But, I guess what I was saying is that the current model camera does not provide a option for AC power right out of the box.
I constantly had to mess with the placement and proximity to light sources constantly for the arlo cams to be useful whatsoever in low light areas. We all know arlo cameras are completely useless in total darkness. I no longer needed five cameras as the range of view for the nest blows the arlo away. Nice find though, but way too complicated for the everyday user. Since we have a quality Netgear lady such as Kristyn monitorng our posts may I suggest Netgear add an electrical adapter to plug in a camera where it is convenient.
I have two cameras mounted within 12" of an electical outlet. I'd convert them if I knew how. Just a thought to improve these incredible cameras at no battery drain. I then noticed a secured wireless available network show up under the name NetGear65 with a full 5 bars - so I knew it was in the house.
How to secure your home surveillance cameras from getting hacked
When we reset the Arlo system up it came up under the name Arlo as an available wireless network. I called Arlo and they told me our system cannot be hacked and the name cannot be changed BUT it was. It's a little difficult to say for sure from afar but generally what you saw is correct and is based on firmware changes.
After your reset and, I presume, a firmware update, an Arloxxxx SSID is displayed which is a result of the new firmware being altered as Arlo creates more separation from Netgear. That would also explain what you saw. Thank you for replying. I do realize it has to be hard wired. I do not thank you for being condescending. I really wish Arlo would let us rename it. I do not like advertising we have a camera system as an available network.
Thank you again. You gave me more info than Arlo did. The tech I spoke to had no idea why the name changed. My base stations were renamed mimicing the names I gave them which was a hash nand the same thing with my cameras. Originally I named them for example. Tenable researcher, Jimi Sebree, has discovered some serious security bugs targeting Arlo wireless security cameras. Specifically, Sebree found two different vulnerabilities that could risk a victims home security upon exploit. To exploit the flaw, an attacker with physical access to the device could connect to the UART port and use default credentials to log in the account as the root user.
The attacker could then execute commands and gain access to sensitive information. With physical access, connecting to the serial port is relatively trivial as it immediately drops the user to a login prompt.
The second vulnerability specifically relates to a network misconfiguration.
Consequently, the attacker could then take control of the targeted Arlo camera. As stated in the advisory. Tenable has identified these vulnerabilities as high-severity bugs with a CVSS base score of 8.
Upon finding the vulnerabilities, Tenable reported the matter to the vendors on March 11, After the continuous collaboration, the vendors patched the vulnerabilities. The vendors have rolled-out the fixes with the latest firmware releases as confirmed in their advisory. The users of the devices must ensure updating to the following patched versions to stay protected from potential exploits.

How to Tell If Your Security Camera Has Been Hacked
Home security cameras are also getting broken into because, like everything else that connects to the internet, they are inherently open to outside forces. Here's what you should do:. When choosing a specific brand, choose a familiar company that treats security more responsibility. Store your footage in a cloud. Earlier this week, Tenable researchers said they discovered " seven severe vulnerabilities " in Amazon's Blink XT2 camera systems.
Amazon patched the problem with a firmware update. Don't use last names, birthdays or addresses. Two-factor is favored by security pros because you have to log in twice to get into your account. Hackers will try you once, and if not successful, move on to other prey. If you've ever had a six-digit verification code sent to your smartphone in order to log in to an online account, you're familiar with two-factor authentication.
And they can't get in without access to your phone or email address. Surveillance camera vendors often expect users to update the devices manually, experts said. So every few months, you should check to see if yours has an available update. Set up manual security updates, if that's an option. You're risking a personal leak that could be devastating. The navigation could not be loaded.
